Remember when LEGO released that first Bonsai Tree back in 2021 and everyone thought "oh, that's nice, a one-off thing for plant people"? Well. Here we are four years later, and the Botanical Collection has become one of LEGO's most reliable product lines. And 2025 is shaping up to be its biggest year yet.
January 2025: The Main Event
The year kicks off strong with four new sets dropping on January 1st. Because apparently LEGO thinks the best way to start the new year is by immediately testing your financial resolve.
For the Adults
Tulip Bouquet (11501) — Finally, a bouquet that won't die after a week on your kitchen counter. Five varieties of tulips in various colors and bloom stages. Adjustable stems for "bespoke arranging," which is a fancy way of saying you can fiddle with it endlessly instead of doing actual work.
Peace Lily (11504) — This one's actually clever. The designers used a recolored carrot piece for the spadix (that's the pointy bit in the middle, for those of us who failed botany). The fully bloomed flower? Topped with a popcorn element. Yes, really. Sometimes the best solutions are the weirdest ones.
For the Younger Builders
LEGO's also expanding the age range with sets for 9+ builders:
Flowering Cactus (11505) — A big blooming cactus and its smaller buddy. Pastel blue pots. Very Instagram-friendly.
Daisies (11508) — Because sometimes you just want to build some cheerful flowers without committing to a 700-piece project.
The Summer Wave
If January doesn't empty your wallet sufficiently, August brings two more heavy hitters:
Hibiscus (10372) — 660 pieces of tropical vibes. Five large lavender blooms, various buds in different stages, dark blue pot. The only complaint from early reports is that it's not red, which... fair point. When someone says "hibiscus," most people picture red. But lavender is nice too. It's fine. We're fine with it.
Mini Bonsai Trees (10373) — Three bonsai trees in one set: a ginkgo with yellow leaves, a black pine with green needles, and a wisteria with those gorgeous hanging lilac flowers. At 709 pieces for $64.99, this might be the best value in the entire Botanical lineup. Interchangeable foliage means you can mix and match to create your own botanical fever dreams.
The Standout: Japanese Red Maple Bonsai Tree
But the real star of 2025 might be the Japanese Red Maple Bonsai Tree (10348), which dropped back in June. At 474 pieces, it's smaller than the original Bonsai Tree, but those red and orange autumn leaves are absolutely stunning. New leaf elements were created specifically for this set — a 3x3 Palm Leaf piece in red that captures the maple's distinctive star shape.
Standing at 24cm (about 9.5 inches) tall, it's a striking companion piece to the original green bonsai. And unlike some of us, it'll look good year-round.
Why Should You Care?
Look, the Botanical Collection isn't for everyone. If you want minifigures and play features, look elsewhere. But for adult builders who want something calming, displayable, and genuinely beautiful? These sets deliver.
They're also surprisingly great value for the "home décor" market. Try buying a nice fake plant at a furniture store and you'll pay about the same — except the LEGO version gives you the building experience too.
Plus, retired Botanical sets have shown solid appreciation on the secondary market, if you're into that sort of thing. The original Bonsai Tree and Flower Bouquet are already fetching premiums.
